Without further ado, here is the daily horoscope.
Good morning, friends!
I hope you all had a good weekend! I have some updates to share today.
First, we are discontinuing a few items in the family Etsy shop, Metaphysical Flamingo, and launching some AstroMommy merch! I will send a separate Newsletter with the details, so watch for that to come soon.
Second, I hope you all have been enjoying the new audio! I appreciate those of you who showed your support by making a donation, thank you so much. Unfortunately, I need about 20 new monthly subscribers’ support to cover the costs of production/month; that’s a little less than 10% of you, so what I am going to do is give y’all a little bit more time—I will continue to make the audio, at least for the month of September, maybe longer, and see if it generates enough support to pay for my time and effort to produce it. I really hope it does, as I feel it adds a nice touch to the Newsletter, but it is not sustainable for me if it doesn’t increase paid subscriptions or donations at this time. Paid subscriptions make this newsletter possible and allow me to offer what I can for free. An annual subscription is only $50, less than a cup of coffee per week. I write 260+ posts per year—so that’s roughly 20 cents per post. I know times are hard, that’s why I’m asking for support, too, right, but if you’re able, please consider it.
If you like the audio and want to see it continue, please upgrade your subscription or make a donation. If you are already a PAID subscriber, Thank you so much! You have no idea what your continued support means to me! I LOVE that audio was requested and I really want to keep doing it!
Third, today is a New Moon, which means a New Word List for the AstroMommy Lunar Poetry Ritual. Last month, I totally dropped the poetry ball, but we’re just gonna keep going, LOL. I will be posting the list soon, so watch for that too! If you’re new here and you don’t know what the Lunar Poetry Ritual is, you can read about it in this post.
Okay, let’s get into…the astrology
Today’s Transits
(All times are in Eastern Time unless mentioned otherwise)
In the morning at 9:46 am Mercury in Leo formed a trine to Chiron in Aries retrograde which is a great time to listen to your heart and soul about something. Perhaps you were thinking a lot about something during Mercury’s retrograde that you feel you need to heal and now you are able to articulate your thoughts on the matter in a way that is authentic and from the heart.
In the afternoon, the Moon, now in Virgo, will make a sesquiquadrate to Chiron in Aries retrograde, which is interesting, since Virgo is ruled by Mercury and Mercury, as we just discussed is in a trine relationship to Chiron. What this means is that you now have the words to express your feelings and thoughts about something you’ve been feeling vulnerable about, but bringing these thoughts up and talking about them will only be the first step toward healing. It’s important you give yourself and the other person, or people involved, time to adjust to whatever you’ve been thinking about.
The Moon will meet up with the Sun for the New Moon at 9:55 pm ET at 11°Virgo 04’. Let’s take a look at the New Moon Chart and talk about what you can expect with this New Moon.
New Moon in Virgo
New Moon’s are always a seeding point, a new beginning, a new spark of inspiration, or a new focus. You can see the Moon and Sun together in the chart above between 4 and 5 o’clock on the wheel. Almost exactly opposite the New Moon is Saturn in Pisces retrograde, located between 10 and 11 o’clock on the chart.
So on the one hand, this New Moon holds the seeds of being detailed, meticulous, and organized and on the other hand there is a pull for sacrifice, dedication, and spiritual duty. Saturn may ask us to serve in some way, commit, or make a vow in order for this new beginning to be born. Both the Sun and Moon will officially make their oppositions to Saturn—the Moon by tomorrow, and the Sun by September 8, 2024, so this lunar cycle is about deciding whether to commit to something or not and there may be a price, a sacrifice, or something required in exchange, such as your time, effort, or purposeful deprivation, like fasting. Saturn doesn’t give things for free, he makes you work for them, but through hard work and patience, Saturn brings rewards.
Additionally, in this New Moon chart, we see Venus with the South Node in Libra, which means surrendering or letting go of some sort of ideal for how you wanted something to look and instead embracing how it is, in reality.
Then we also have Pluto, who just moved back into Capricorn over the weekend and is in a sextile relationship with Neptune, and a trine relationship with Uranus, who just stationed retrograde on Sunday, as well—all of this suggests that there may be sudden changes this month that could feel almost magical or of a spiritual nature. The trine and sextile are harmonious aspects that mean ease, grace, and effortless connections, so underlying this very tense opposition between the New Moon and Saturn, there is something transformational, transcendent, and revolutionary that is happening—it’s as if on the spiritual level our call is getting through, the connection is easy, swift, and almost imperceptible, like our breathing, or our heart beating, we know it is happening but we usually don’t pay much attention to it, unless it is different, so maybe you’ll notice this energy or maybe it will be so automatic that you won’t, like a boat flowing with the current, it will just take you in the right direction.
Mars is at the end of Gemini down at the 7 o’clock position on the chart and will ingress into Cancer, the sign of his fall on September 4, 2024, and at the end of his time in Cancer, he will oppose Pluto retrograde on November 3, 2024, which represents a very aggressive battle for power in the future. We will definitely be discussing Mars’ movements through Cancer and his upcoming retrograde in Leo in December, 2024, but for now, looking just at this next lunar cycle, the biggest transit that we need to look at involving Mars, is his square to the nodes two days before the Lunar Eclipse on September 17-18, 2024 (depending on your time zone), which represents a very big celebration or ending that may have a lot of aggressive, Martian themes, such as arguments, fights, or war cries, since Mars will be in Cancer and the Moon rules Cancer. There is a lot more going on this month, which we will get into in the daily check-ins!
Here are some questions to ask yourself on this New Moon:
What are we beginning that requires attention to detail? What are we sacrificing in order to commit to this new focus? What have we been thinking about that we are now ready to begin? Who or what are we going to serve with this new start?
Briefly, below you will find the house that this New Moon is occurring in according to your rising sign. Find your rising and read the house topics associated with this New Moon. You may notice a new beginning involving one or more of those topics.

I recently read a wonderful account of this New Moon in Virgo on another Substack called
, written by a colleague of mine, , and I think you’d all enjoy what he has to say, so if you’d like to hear another perspective, as well as the Tarot Card associated with the decan that this New Moon is in, you can check out the AstroNotes Newsletter here. The Tarot Card
Let’s see what the cards have to say…
What is the guidance for today?
XVII The Star
I love this card for a New Moon because it literally represents starting over!
On this card, we see the character Jack Kline, the son of Lucifer, from the hit show, Supernatural. Even though Jack is the son of the devil, he decides to take control of his own life and fight evil, embodying goodness. This is very interesting since this New Moon opposes Saturn, the Greater Malefic and ruler of Capricorn, the Sea Goat and zodiac sign associated with The Devil card in the Tarot—so it is as if we are going to have to decide, who we are going to serve, as well, but on a much more mundane level, thank goodness!
XVII The Star is about starting over and having hope, even when the odds are stacked against you. This card reminds us to pick ourselves back up after a period of upheaval, crisis, or uncertainty and rebuild ourselves. XVII The Star says, “There is a future and it is bright, abundant, and good, so embrace your inner power—you can do this!”
So, if you’ve recently gone through some sort of test or challenge, this is your omen to have hope and remember how resilient you are. You can rise like a phoenix!
Simply put, this card may be pointing out that you are starting over in some regard and it is a reminder to have faith in yourself and your ability to be self-sufficient—the perfect sentiment for a New Moon in Virgo!
I would love to hear your thoughts!
I hope this is helpful!
Until tomorrow,
AstroMommy
