Announcement: Today I will be posting word list #4, for our Lunar Poetry Slam, so keep an eye out for that email!

Today is another big day!  It’s the New Moon in Leo; Jupiter stations retrograde, and Mercury is squaring Uranus.  Holy crap, Batman!

The New Moon in Leo (happening at 1:54 PM ET) is a time to set the intention to live from your true heart space, with honor and courage. Go towards the things in life that make you happy, bring out your creative side, and fill you with that child-like wonder that Leo embodies.

Jupiter goes retrograde at 4:37 PM ET.  The last time that Jupiter was retrograde in Aries was back in July of 2010, so think back to what you were doing then.  This transit may be similar as Jupiter’s retrograde will activate a lot of the same themes in your life that it did in 2010.

For example:  In my own chart, back in 2010, Jupiter went retrograde in Aries in my 11th house of hopes, dreams, friends, and humanitarianism and went back into my tenth house of career.  In my natal chart, Jupiter rules over my seventh house of relationships and my tenth house of career (using whole sign houses).

Amazingly, during this retrograde, I was presented with an opportunity to deliver my sister’s baby (she had decided to have an unassisted birth at home with her partner and asked me to be the “attending midwife,” so to speak)—I had always wanted to be a midwife and deliver babies and, given my current circumstances, I had felt that that dream may never happen, so I said yes!  With my background training as an EMT and my love for midwifery, pregnancy, and birth, I accepted—and after receiving some training from her midwife— attended her homebirth, catching my beautiful niece!

The star of this scenario, was of course my brave sister (anyone who has given birth will agree), but it was a wish of mine that was fulfilled during this Jupiter retrograde—it pulled in elements of all the houses involved: 7th, 10th, and 11th.

So, look back at your life in 2010.  What happened for you?  How this transit affects you will rely heavily upon which houses Jupiter rules in your natal chart; activating those themes in your life.

Jupiter will be retrograde until November 24, 2022, and will station direct at 28 degrees of Pisces. Where Jupiter goes direct in your chart in November, will also be important.

Mercury in Leo is perfecting a square to Uranus in Taurus today.  This will bring up unexpected events, news, and even situations where people put their feet in their mouths!  This could be people suddenly changing their minds, freak accidents, or the internet going out.  Sudden, unexpected events having to do with: communication, travel (especially by car, bus, bike, or even walking), your siblings, and your community, may unfold.

Be prepared for people lashing out as they are “grabbed” by this transit and give them a wide berth.  The Sanskrit word for “Planets” is “grahas” which means, “grabbers.”

Do yourself a favor and be as flexible and open-minded as possible today.  This may be hard, as Leo and Taurus are fixed signs and people, including yourself, could fixate on things and be rigid and inflexible.  Mercury square Uranus also represents people having the ability to suddenly pivot and change their direction or course—so use your flexibility to go with the energies in a constructive way.  It’ll be like practicing spiritual Aikido out there today!

The Moon will trine Jupiter by this evening, so this is wonderful!  This may bring our circumstances into harmonious alignment with Jupiter, making it possible to begin to receive those beautiful gifts, like getting in line to see Santa Claus at the mall. Have your wish lists ready, LOL!

One of my teachers, David Palmer, the Leo King, said that Jupiter retrograde is a time when we are bringing in and receiving all those things that we were expanding when Jupiter was direct.  We can think back to earlier this year in April when Jupiter entered his shadow period (when a planet gets to the degree to which it will retrograde back to during its next retrograde) to get an idea as to what this may be.  What were you focusing on and pouring your energy into in April?  I started writing this daily horoscope!

The card for the day is:

Seven of Wands

Seven of Wands

This card represents defending one’s position, having struggles, being challenged, or feeling justified in one’s defensive posture.

We may feel defensive today.  We may feel like life just won’t let up and give us a lucky break.  The struggle is real, as they say.

I feel that this card really represents the challenge for today, so let’s pull another card…

What is our tool for today?

8 of Pentacles

Eight of Pentacles

This card signifies concentrated effort in our creative crafts.  As our tool, I feel it means to focus on what we are creating and not lose sight of the bigger picture of what we are building.  I also feel that it symbolizes diligence and hard work.

What is the outcome?

XXIII  The Artist

XXIII The Artist

This card symbolizes a visionary who can interpret the world and, through their passion and art, be a vessel for creation.

The 3-Card Spread for today, represents (from left to right): our challenge, our tool, and the outcome.

So, our challenge today is being defensive.  Our tool is being steadfast and sticking to the plan.  The outcome of this will be the ability to turn what we experience in this human existence into a beautiful, artistic expression of creation.

When we remember that our challenges and struggles are part of our growth as souls, we can turn them into pieces of art that inspire others.

I am reminded of old paintings of epic battles—of which there are several and from every century—where the artist is encapsulating something horrendous, but there’s a beauty to it at the same time—in the colors used, the strokes of the paint brush, and the feelings evoked.

There may be an epic battle happening in your life right now.  This card reading is a reminder to courageously find the beauty and the lessons in it and be inspired by the growth of your soul.

I would love to hear your interpretations of this 3-card spread! Please share them in the comments, if you’d like!

In 2010, I graduated from college, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Constitutional Rights, Law, and Justice. I was soon to be 59, and went right into Grad school. I also found almost ten thousand dollars stashed away for me in the Colorado Payback program! I had changed addresses and the money was there from an old stock certificate payout waiting for me to claim it!
