Okay, let’s get into… the astrology

Wednesday, December 7, 2022

Well, tonight is the Full Moon in Gemini conjunct Mars!  I have been so excited about this full moon actually because this is the first time since I have been writing horoscopes that the Moon will be blocking out a planet during a full Moon!  Yep, that’s right!  The Moon will be blocking out Mars from our view, in most of the United States, except the Southeastern region.  This phenomenon is called a Lunar Occultation. Below you can see in the graphic, where on Earth this phenomenon will be visible and where it will not.  You can also check out in-the-sky.org to check out if your particular location will be able to observe it. Unfortunately, because I am in North Carolina, I won’t be able to see it, but if you do, please let us know and share a picture if you can!

Visibility of the Lunar Occultation of Mars on December 7, 2022.

So, let's unpack this a bit…

The Moon will be Full at 11:07 pm ET, at 16°Gemini 01’ with Mars only 06’ of arc away at 16° Gemini 07’.  You can see how close they are in the chart of the Full Moon below from Solar Fire:

The Moon and Mars are conjoined in Gemini opposite the Sun in Sagittarius on December 7, 2022—the Full Moon. Image courtesy of Solar Fire.

Just six minutes later the Moon obscures Mars from our view.  As you can see in this next image from Solar System Scope, a top-down view of the Sun, Earth, Moon, and Mars, all in perfect alignment.

And here, in the next image, you can see the same thing but from the front view.  The Moon lines up perfectly to block out Mars from our point of view.

Not only is the Moon going to block out Mars, but the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all out-of-bounds (OOB) as well!  An OOB planet is a planet that is beyond the obliquity of the earth, which is the 23.5° difference between the celestial equator and the ecliptic—the path of the Sun.  This difference, caused by the tilt of the Earth, is what creates our seasons.  When a planet goes above or below this 23.5° range, it is said to be OOB and has the tendency to act and behave unpredictably.

So, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all a bit unpredictable during this Full Moon!  A Full Moon is already a time of heightened energy because it marks the climax of the lunar cycle—add onto this energy all four of these celestial bodies being out-of-bounds and the Moon blocking Mars and we could see a very dramatic climax!

The Full Moon in Gemini could represent the seeds of intention that you planted two weeks ago during the New Moon in Sagittarius, which then turned into fruits during the first quarter phase, and are now ripe and ready for harvest!  The Moon in Gemini inspires one to seek out more information, learn new languages, travel, read books, take courses, and have many conversations.

I would love to know if you are able to witness the Lunar occultation of Mars tonight!  Leave me a comment or send me a photo!

Right after the Full Moon and the Lunar Occultation of Mars, the Sun perfects his opposition to Mars at 12:41 am ET.  This means the Earth is smack dab in the middle of the Sun and Mars.  The Sun and Mars in opposition means fights, aggression, and power struggles.  Since Mars naturally represents war, cutting, surgery, knives, strife, men, and conflict; and the Sun represents power, fire, spirit, soul, the life force, the heart, and important solar figures in our lives—this opposition could be intense, especially with the Full Moon basically right on top of it!  And let’s not forget the OOB energy of the Moon and Mars, too!  So, we could see trouble, conflict, and strife between powerful masculine energies.  Watch out for fires, heart issues, and problems caused by hastiness, impulsiveness, or people’s energy running amok!

Let’s move on to the card for the day:

What is the guidance for Wednesday?

King of Swords—Reversed

On this card, we see a King, holding a sword and a shaft of wheat.  His crown is gold and sturdy and his robes are blue.  Around his neck is a wreath of greenery.  Behind him are clouds and a blue sky.

In the upright position, the King of Swords represents someone who has a powerful intellect and is authoritative, courageous, and truthful.  He is able to cut to the heart of the matter with efficiency and detachment.  It represents the need to look at a situation with clarity and objectivity or to seek counsel from someone who is an advisor of sorts, like a lawyer or an accountant.

In the reversed position, it can symbolize someone who is indecisive about what they want to do or where they want to go.  One could be feeling lost, confused, and a lack of mental clarity about things.  Because one may feel scattered mentally, procrastination could be a big deal.  This card is a reminder that we need to summon our inner strength and cut to the truth of the matter in a rational way so that we can make the necessary decisions and move forward.

The Moon is still in Gemini today and will start out the morning with a nice trine to Saturn in Aquarius.  The Moon and Saturn usually bring up feelings of isolation and loneliness, but with a trine aspect, which traditionally is the nature of Jupiter, there could be a feeling of ease this morning that makes fulfilling our duties and responsibilities as easy as spreading butter on toast.  This may be a nice way to start the day, especially if last night was intense with fights and all, but it still is Saturn, so it could still suck.  Hopefully, it won’t.

By the afternoon, the Moon makes a square to Neptune in Pisces and your toast could get a bit soggy when your coffee gets metaphorically spilled on it. Moon and Neptune together in a square aspect could bring about something that is nobody’s fault, but feelings of loss could come up.  Maybe you really wanted that toast and now you have to make a new batch and you know it is ridiculous to cry about it, but the tears just keep coming.  You feel like a 3-year-old, but it’s unstoppable.

By late tonight, the Moon in Gemini opposes Venus in Sagittarius and starts to square Jupiter in Pisces—this creates a T-square from the Moon to the two benefics.  Thankfully, the Moon and Venus and the Moon and Jupiter combinations are usually ones of good fortune and so even though this aspect is an opposition and a square, traditionally the natures of Saturn and Mars, respectively, I feel that it could be a constructive interaction.  There could be some hard feelings that come up around relationships, values, money, and big-picture ideas, but ultimately everyone wants what is best going forward—and so I think this represents a compromise or actions being taken that will be beneficial in the long run.

It’s like, in my kitchen I need to purge the contents of my cabinets, but in order to do so I have to take everything out and make a big mess that will be everywhere and in everyone’s way, so it will be annoying, but only temporarily.  After I clean out the cabinets and purge what’s inside, my kitchen will run more smoothly and be more pleasant to cook in!  So, an inconvenience and uncomfortable situation that is only temporary and will yield something great at the end of the day.  That’s how I’m looking at this transit between the Moon and the two benefics.  Renovations could also fit this dynamic.  Anything where there is an uncomfortable compromise while you are tackling a bigger issue that ultimately will make things better in the long run.

Let’s move on to the card for the day:

What is the guidance for Thursday?

Page of Rods

On this card we see a page, wearing a brown cloak and pants and a yellow shirt.  His hat is brown and has a feather in it.  He is holding a sprouted rod (wand) looking at it intently.  Behind him are red mountains and barren land.

In the upright position, this card indicates that you are feeling inquisitive and inspired to find life, growth, and meaning anywhere you go and with anything you do.  You may not have a plan or know exactly how you are going to get where you want to go, but you’re willing to set out on the adventure and give it a go!  You are ready to clean your kitchen and see where it takes you—the possibilities are endless!  Maybe it’ll lead you to a whole new kitchen décor that will be totally awesome and inspire you to cook more interesting and tasty meals for your family.  Who knows?
