Good morning, friends!
There have been two huge spiders in my house that I have been unable to catch and put outside. The first was a behemoth downstairs in my basement that looked at me like, “how could you?” after I tried to catch it with a large yogurt container, and the second, was this morning in my kitchen, a very large wolf spider that sped under the table when I repeatedly tried to catch it with a glass cup!
So, naturally, I wondered what “spider” can symbolize. I got out my husband’s Medicine Cards and looked up Spider.
43 Spider~Weaving
On the positive side, Spider represents being creative and finding creative solutions to your problems, as well as a warning that you may be coming too close to entangling situations that could catch you in the web of fate! Spider medicine could also be asking you to write or journal your experiences and your progress so that you can see how far you’ve come, and won’t lose sight of the bigger picture or plan. Spider can be alerting you that you have caught something in your web, and that you need to notice it, so you don’t miss the opportunity (for lunch!).
On the negative side, Spider symbolism represents the negative side of the feminine who will eat their mate instead of honoring the male energy. It’s a reminder to honor the masculine energy that balances out the feminine energy in your life. Maybe this is literally being kind to a partner that you have been unkind to or felt superior to (like a female black widow) in some way, or maybe it’s about honoring both your inner masculine and feminine energy, the yin yang duality that is present in all of us, and finding a balance.
Another negative issue that spider could be bringing up is feeling drained of our creative juices and therefore resentful of others’ success. The only way to move that energy is to find joy in others’ accomplishments and use that joy to create new ideas, so you can spin a new web that’s successful. It’s easy to become jaded when we feel wronged by the Universe in some way and then to be overly pessimistic, trapping ourselves in the web of fate even more. By cultivating the emotion of “joy” we lift ourselves up (and others), raise our vibrations, and things start to shift in a better direction. We are focusing on something beautiful and positive and that acts like a magnet for more good fortune.
(Or maybe, I just need to make sure that all my windows are closed so these creepy crawlies don’t get into my house!)
This is a very interesting message considering the astrology that is coming up this weekend and into early next week.
We have the Moon moving into Sagittarius for the weekend— this will give us the ability to get a birds’ eye view and see the big picture. That will be a welcome shift after our trip through the underworld with the Moon in Scorpio over the last couple of days. Did it feel emotional and heavy to you? It certainly did for me!
Saturday, the Moon will be making a nice trine to Jupiter in Aries, and Venus will enter the 3-degree orb of an opposition to Pluto in Capricorn (owie, mama! ).
Moving on to Sunday, Venus will trine Neptune, and Mars will square Saturn (disillusionment and limitations on forward movement).
Okay, so let’s unpack the biggies…
First, Venus moving into an opposition with Pluto could be really painful, revealing, or emotionally cleansing. Venus in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn may bring up really deep touchy subjects that we’ve been trying to avoid talking about. It could also indicate people that you love having an illness or passing away, especially women. Just like last month when the Sun opposed Pluto and there was the possibility of death to solar figures, fathers, or people in places of authority, Venus's opposition to Pluto can bring up the topic of female figures passing away or falling ill. So, not to be too “doom and gloom,” but just be aware and attentive to the important females in your life, especially mothers, sisters, daughters, etc…
Venus opposite Pluto could also bring up the dark, dirty, messy, uncomfortable, yucky relationship issues that you normally don’t want to touch with a ten-foot pole— in any kind of relationship. So, watch out for things coming up from the depths of the underworld that trigger you in some way, or the other person in some way.
Of course, this transit could also bring up things in the news involving women, women’s rights (especially reproductive), and/or information coming to light about the abuse of women in some way or trials involving women.
This transit will be exact on August 9th, and then dissipate around August 12th, right after the Full Moon, so we can expect to feel the energy of this transit for most of this next week, starting this weekend.
Now, onto Venus in Cancer trine Neptune in Pisces. This transit is exact at 12:42 pm ET on Sunday, but we are definitely within orb all weekend and will be feeling this transit until about August 9th, when the Venus opposite Pluto energy will kindly take over.
Venus in a trine with Neptune could bring up the need or desire to escape to the Bahamas for the weekend! Heck, the whole week, if we’re honest! We want all our problems to just magically disappear and go away, and on some level, we may need to actually ignore them for a moment to recharge our batteries. We have all been through a lot of hard transits lately (try the last two years!!) and sometimes we need to put a movie on and forget about reality for two hours.
Do what you can this weekend to recharge. Whether that’s watching a movie, losing yourself in a good book, or going shopping, whatever—just do it. We are all going to need our cups/batteries/band-widths, etc…super full and charged up in order to keep dealing with all the trials and tribulations that we are all dealing with. If your life is perfect, then you can disregard this suggestion…and I’d like to know what water you’re drinking and, can you ship me some? I’ll pay the shipping!
But, seriously…
Mars will square Saturn on Sunday at 3:56 PM ET, so you better be done with that movie or book by then, because reality is going to come charging back with this one. Mars wants to get going already, but Saturn is still putting the harsh limitations down and restricting Mars from taking real action. Squares are Mars-like energies and they literally mean ACTION! So, I think this may feel like the “Bull in the China shop” breaking things, trying to get out! This is a tough one because I don’t think that Saturn is going to make it that easy, even if Mars is throwing a temper tantrum.
Saturn in Aquarius is trying to teach lessons to Mars by restricting and limiting what Mars can and can’t do—it’s like a father or authority figure setting out the rules for the child to follow in order for there to be peace and fairness in the household, but the child doesn’t want any rules! Rules are a necessary evil for society to behave itself and limitations force us to be more creative in our endeavors.
This energy is underscored by Mars still being in a conjunction with Uranus and the North Node in Taurus—so Saturn is also squaring them as well. Uranus in Taurus keeps moving the goalpost on us. As soon as we think we may have it all figured out and things are going to start flowing, the rules of the game change and we have to pivot. It’s more than a little bit maddening!
So, what do we do with all this energy this weekend? That’s where the cards come in. Let’s see what sage advice they have in store for us…
The card for the weekend is:
2 Hawk~Messenger
Yes, a hawk can totally eat a spider! LOL!
“Hawk is akin to Mercury, the messenger of the Gods.” (Sams & Carson, p. 45)
“Hawk medicine people are aware of omens, messages from the spirit, and the color of the calling card you gave them three months ago. No detail slips by them unnoticed.” (Sams & Carson, p. 46)
This is about being aware of the messages and signals you are receiving in your life or are about to receive. Either Hawk is bringing an opportunity your way, or encouraging you to fly overhead and look at your life from a bird’s eye view (just like the Sagittarius Moon!).
I think that this card is not only reminding us to use the energy of the Sagittarius Moon, but also the energy of Mercury in Virgo to our advantage. Virgo and Sagittarius are both mutable signs and so they square each other in order to get results. We can use the precise, detail-oriented Virgo energy with the broad vision of Sagittarius to come up with very creative and workable solutions, creating “reality-based optimism.”
Maybe, by circling around our life, like a hawk, we will be able to see the impasse or the obstacles ahead and can work out the details of how to slip through the maze via a secret passageway that we wouldn’t have been able to see before. Mazes always seem impossible when you are in them, deep inside the chaos, but if you are able to get up above them, you can see how to get through and then use that knowledge when you re-immerse yourself into the maze.
When I was a kid, one of my favorite places to go to for fun was a human labyrinth, called The Wooz. It was a maze made of wooden corridors, but there were towers scattered throughout where you could climb to the top and look out over the maze and try to memorize the turns you needed to make in order to make it out. Then you would go back down into the chaos, where other kids and adults were walking or running, back and forth trying to find their way. If you were smart, you studied every detail that you could see when you were in the tower and figured out a way to memorize the turns—maybe even repeating them like repeating a list of groceries as you go around the store—bacon, eggs, and bread: B.E.B.: 3 things, I just need three things, BEB, bacon, eggs, and bread…etc…right, left, left, right….
A corn maze is even harder, because usually there are no towers to look out from. The tendency that I have when I’m in a corn maze and I can’t find my way is a lot like Mars in Taurus—I just want to plow through the corn and emerge like the Hulk on the other side!! But, imagine that Saturn makes that corn impenetrable, but for only one spot—there’s only one opening, or one opportunity to get through and you have to use your keen senses and creativity to find it. There’s no plowing through.
I feel that right now we are being given towers—the Sagittarius Moon and the Hawk card—to get a broader view. Climb them and use them, and then use the Mercury in Virgo to take notes and write down all the details that you see. Observe everything, like a Hawk. Let no signal or message go unnoticed, for “…all gifts are equal in the eyes of the Great Spirit.” (Sams & Carson, p. 47).
What messages are you getting from today’s horoscope and card reading? Have you ever gone into a life-sized maze before? A corn maze, a Wooz-type of theme park, or The Wooz in California, like me? How did you feel going through it? I would love to hear your thoughts.
As always, I hope this horoscope and card reading are helpful!
Until tomorrow,
