Sometimes when I sit down to write, I feel like I am treading water deep in the ocean, looking up through the dark liquid, at that circle of light where the sky touches the surface. That meeting point of water/emotions and air/intellect is where I need to go in order to start writing. Sometimes it takes forever to swim up to the surface and sometimes I wake up already swimming laps, like an Olympic athlete. This morning, not so much.
As I am writing this sentence, at 7:55 in the morning on the East Coast, the Moon is making a Grand trine with Mercury and Pluto—first, she made a trine with Mercury in Taurus just a couple of hours ago, and now she is applying to Pluto in Capricorn, perfecting the aspect within 12 minutes from now.
This means an easy flow of deep ideas, communication, and feelings. Which, ironically, is probably why I finally found the inspiration to put my thoughts into words and start writing, as I have been sitting here, staring at the transits for a good hour or so. I finally made it up to the surface.
This energy of the Moon trine Pluto could feel good or it could feel hard. Like the air when you emerge from the depths of the ocean. It could feel cold and harsh or warm and balmy, the coolness on your skin a welcome sensation or an unpleasant one you’d rather avoid.
When the Moon makes a connection with Pluto it represents dealing with the mother, or your own ‘mothering’ tendencies, it could mean emotional distress or stress around your emotional bonds with loved ones. This aspect, being in a trine, means that whatever blocks or friction you have been feeling up until now will simply fall away and not be there.
For example: say you’ve been having a hard time getting through to your child about something. Today’s aspect could mean that your child is finally ready to open up to you about what’s been bothering them and you have an amazing deep conversation that strengthens your bond. All blocks are removed and the relationship moves forward in a positive direction because of the deep feelings shared.
That’s a happy example, but on the flip side: maybe you find out some news about a loved one who’s been battling an illness and has passed away in their sleep—all obstacles and friction were spiritually removed for them and they surrendered to an easy passage to the other side—not an easy thing to find out, but you know in your heart that they are doing better now; now that they are no longer in pain.
I have to bring up death because we’re talking about Pluto here and Pluto has to do with death and rebirth and irrevocable changes. So, I just want to prepare you for the possibility. I am in no way saying that death will occur. Pluto also can indicate a death/rebirth of some figurative part of ourselves, dying away and something new emerging, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
Could be an intense morning, or you could have just been experiencing “writer’s block,” like me, and suddenly have that “opening line” you were waiting for and now all the inspirational, meaningful, and “deep” things are coming out of your head freely and unobstructed. Could be like that, you never know? (What do you think of my first line?)
After the Moon makes this trine to Pluto this morning, she goes Void of Course, which is a period when the Moon is not making any aspects to any planets exactly. This period will end by 11:22 am Eastern time when the Moon moves into the sign of Libra and starts making aspects with all the planets that are currently in the opposite sign of Aries.
During this Void of Course period this morning we could all feel a little bit unmotivated to do anything or we could simply feel like nothing is happening. For many of you on the West Coast, you may wake up during this time and not feel motivated to get the day going until about 8:30ish. But, that feeling won’t last long.
When the Moon moves into Libra we will undoubtedly feel a new rush of energy to get things started and get on with the day! We may feel like socializing, hanging out with our partners or loved ones, and generally just wanting to have a peaceful, easy-going, good time.
By this afternoon the Moon will make a sesquiquadrate to Uranus in Taurus—we may feel some unusual and spontaneous urges to do something different by late afternoon/early evening! Maybe throw all the kids in the car and go for a drive, just to drive! Maybe take a spontaneous walk somewhere or decide to totally change our dinner plans and make something new and exciting! We may feel kind of frustrated and need to do something different in a physical way to change the energy. Or this energy could bring about some sort of argument about some trivial details or pet peeve. Whatever comes up, just take a walk, go for a drive, or make yourself a cup of tea, do something to break up the energy and change it.
By tonight the Moon will begin to make oppositions to the planets in Aries, starting with Jupiter. We may feel the balancing act in full force between these two energies of pioneering, individualistic, independent Aries and the desire to pair up with people and socialize, connect, and relate to one another. It’s always hard to balance healthy independence and healthy relationships with the Aries/Libra polarity, but it is through this relationship with others that we truly learn about who we are as individuals.
I want to pick three cards for today, representing the morning, afternoon, and evening energies.
The card for the morning is:
Knight of Swords
This card represents the brave and skillful warrior who is ready to cut through anything in his way to achieving what he wants. The Moon in Virgo trine Pluto in Capricorn this morning is coming through strongly with this card. Representing mental energy and the ability to strike down thoughts, attitudes, or beliefs that may get in our way. We will have a willingness to face things this morning. It’s like we will be on a mission to write a horoscope and nothing will stop us!
The card for the afternoon is:
IX of Rods
This card shows a soldier, standing guard, with a rod over his shoulder, ready to fight and defend his place if needed. So, this afternoon we may take a defensive posture, poised and willing to battle it out, if necessary.
The Rods, oftentimes called Wands in many decks, represent fire energy, action, and swiftness. This card is a reminder that we can remain calm and find resolution in our situation by taking swift action and communicating directly. Maybe a, “nip it in the bud,” type of energy. Not a time to let things fester, but a time to boldly defend our authentic truth with clear, direct communication.
The card for the evening is:
XI Justice-Reversed
This is such a perfect card since the Moon will have moved into Libra this afternoon and by this evening oppose Jupiter in Aries! This card represents finding balance in situations, coming to a just outcome, and order coming out of chaos, but reversed it means the opposite: an unfair judgment, or making poor choices that don’t create balance.
So clearly, balance and harmony are big keywords for the day and those things may be hard to achieve. First, with feeling the need to cut through the crap this morning and defend our positions on things this afternoon, and if we make poor judgments or choices we may not have an easy, peaceful evening.
I think that this spread is putting us on notice that emotions could be a bit intense today and we need to do what we can to keep a level head and be like the Justice card upright—striving to be balanced, clear, and logical in our actions, our speech, and even, spiritually.
Thanks for taking a “swim” with me today! I hope this was helpful!
Until tomorrow,
