Hello, my name is AstroMommy. When I thought of this alias I pictured a world-renowned astrologer, dressed in a white flowy dress, her blond hair cascading down her back like the mane of a sexy centaur, who could guide and teach people through her amazing knowledge of astrology—but I’d say that’s the Instagram version. The real version is an aspiring astrologer, dressed in yoga pants, hair up in a sassy bun like the pom pom tail of a bunny rabbit, who is on a quest to forever learn and grow by looking at the world through the lens of astrology. Hopefully, you will feel uplifted and guided by me sharing the knowledge I have absorbed so far, but most importantly this will be a working relationship: one where we will both learn as we go.
I grew up in an astrological home; both my parents are astrologers. They spoke to me with astrological lingo and eventually, I became interested and I picked up the symbols and some basic knowledge. I would ask them to do compatibility charts of me and my friends, and my boyfriends, in high school. I always thought that one day I would decide to take it seriously and become skilled at the family trade, but I never thought I would do it professionally. Then, 2019 came and I had a 12th house solar return and 18 months of transiting Pluto in my 8th house square my natal Pluto in my fifth—my world turned upside down; the foundation of my marriage had an earthquake that left a giant crack; my universe was forever changed. I’m not going to go into the details about what happened during that 18 months, but for me, it was worse than 2020 was for the world—I was suddenly thrown into a metamorphosis state, like some sort of molting insect—I hit a low I had never hit before and Astrology came to me as a knight in shining armor comes to rescue a princess from a burning tower--and saved me. Astrology brought me back from the edge. I emerged like a beautiful butterfly from a cocoon, never to return to my previous state of being. I felt a spiritual call and knew that the time was now to immerse myself and start the lifelong process of learning astrology. I began reading and watching everything I could in an attempt to download as much information as quickly as possible so that I could start to help others. I took a wonderful astrology course, but at the end of it, I was hit with the awareness that I needed more schooling, more experience, and more mentoring, for once the lid was opened on the chest of knowledge, the depths of it had no end! I have now had the insight that, to acquire the understanding of how it all works, I need to just jump off the ledge! I will either hit the ground or fly!
It’s not possible to know it all and that’s ok. So, now the question was how exactly would this fit into my life? I needed a way to integrate my love for astrology with what I was already doing: homeschooling, homemaking, and mothering—and AstroMommy was born.
I have been a homeschooling mom for seven years now, and I have struggled like most non-religious homeschoolers to find and teach a secular curriculum to my children that is both affordable and excellent. I want to share what I have learned and be a resource to other homeschooling educators, but I also want to share how I see my children, my school, and my life, through an astrological worldview.
I have five children: an Aries son, 17 yrs.; an Aquarius daughter, 14 yrs.; a Leo son, 10 yrs.; a Gemini daughter, 6 yrs., and a Virgo daughter, who is 2 ½ yrs. They are all unique in how they learn, how they play, and how they are inspired. I use astrology to help me tailor their education and I want to share it with you. It is really interesting to dive deep into your child’s natal chart and discover drives and values that can help you teach them writing, arithmetic, history, science, and the arts, in a way that is unique to them. It is equally interesting to explore my own chart and find hidden gems that help me be the best mother, teacher, and homemaker that I can be. That is what I am setting out to share with this publication, this business, this brand. How to use astrology to have a meaningful life, whilst raising, homeschooling, and guiding your children. And don’t forget, how to use Astrology to clean your house! (Update: AstroMommy has evolved a bit past this original idea, but all of this is still at the heart of my practice)
Life is full of ups and downs, twists and turns…Astrology has helped me navigate this road so that I don’t feel so lost. Motherhood, itself, can be a scary, lonely, and very isolating place. It’s nice to know that at least you have the stars and planets as guiding lights.
So, that’s who I am. I don’t know everything and never will, but I am going to share my journey with you as best I can.
This newsletter will be where I share my inner feelings and thoughts about it all in a candid way and also just a creative outlet for me. Because of my rising sign, I can’t commit to a regular schedule, but I am doing my best to follow my North Node and keep it real. (Update: I have actually committed to writing a daily horoscope and if you are here then you probably already know that! LOL, but this is true, I do have a Gemini rising and never in a million years thought I could commit to writing every day, but here I am)
Until next time…
~AstroMommy
Update (9/4/2023): I am currently enrolled in Adam Elenbaas’ Advanced Hellenistic Astrology course and Introduction to Horary course. I have fallen in love with these forms of astrology and currently practice Western Tropical Astrology with a sort of estuary of Modern and Traditional techniques and philosophies. I use traditional rulerships and either Whole Sign or Regiomontanus house systems. Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction! I hope you enjoy this newsletter and share it with your friends and family!
Until tomorrow,
