Without further ado, here is the Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius 2024 horoscope.
Good afternoon, friends!
Mercury is about to station retrograde in a few hours. My “Astrokid” and I made a little astronomy lesson video showing what is happening in the sky during a Mercury retrograde for your learning pleasure over on YouTube. Check it out here:
I will not be posting anymore this week until December 1, 2024, for the New Moon in Sagittarius, as I will be taking the rest of the week off to celebrate my birthday and Thanksgiving. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I wish you a wonderful holiday!
Okay, let’s get into…the astrology.
In the following graphic are the stages of this Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius 2024: Mercury entered the shadow period on November 07, 2024, and stations retrograde on November 25, 2024. He will then station direct on December 15, 2024, and leave the post-shadow period on January 02, 2025.
So, before we go into the horoscopes, I want to first take a look at the event chart for this Mercury retrograde, which I cast for 9:42 pm ET using whole sign houses and the program Solar Fire. You can see the chart pictured below:
Here are some Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius reflections and basics:
We can expect revisions, reflections, and renegotiations, as well as, rerouting, rescheduling, and reorganizing things. Sagittarius is an Fire sign and as such is warm, outgoing, passionate, optimistic, enthusiastic, active, ignitable, and excitable. It’s important during this Mercury retrograde to allow ourselves to dream big while also paying attention to the details if possible.
Because Mercury in is in his detriment in Sagittarius, it may be harder for Mercury to do Mercurial things like writing manuals, speaking about boring subjects, and communicating in a matter-of-fact way during this retrograde cycle. Mercury in Sagittarius is an embellished, a dreamer, a story-teller, and communication during this time will be nothing drab, boring, or snooze-worthy. It, may be the complete opposite, and full of nuance, inuendo, jazz, and pizazz! What it won’t have are boring facts, data, and outdated cliches. This could be fun, or this could be a bit dangerous, depending on the news we are trying to get, LOL! This is great for writing fiction but not so great for reporting facts.
This situation could be compounded by the fact that Mercury in Sagittarius will be opposing Jupiter three times in total during this transit: he already made the first opposition during the shadow period on November 18, 2024, and now, Mercury will make the second stand-off on December 4, 2024, and their final one on December 26, 2024, during the post-retrograde shadow period. This opposition with Jupiter, the ruler of the sign of Sagittarius, where Mercury currently travels is a major theme for this retrograde and will activate this axis in your natal chart.
The silver lining to this is that Jupiter is in Gemini, his detriment, but Mercury’s domicile! So, they are each in their own detriments, but in each other’s homes; this is known as mutual reception and will actually help these two planets get along during this time.
Mercury and Jupiter are archetypal pairs anyway, being that their home-signs are opposite to each other on the zodiac wheel, and so we can understand each one better by analyzing their relationship with each other.
Mercury is the planet of communication, thought, intellect, and lots of small moving parts, numbers, data sets, etc., and Jupiter is the planet of unity, knowledge, truth, and wisdom, and focuses our attention on the long-term broad vision, setting our sights on the horizon. So, one planet expands our view and takes us far out into the future, exploring the macrocosm so to speak (Jupiter), and the other brings our view down to the nitty-gritty details like looking at life through a microscope, exploring the microcosm.
Astrologer Reinhold Ebertin says in his book, The Combination of Stellar Influences 91972) that the principle of Mercury and Jupiter together is “Sound common sense, [and] the intellect.” In a hard aspect, “common sense” can be harder to achieve as the two archetypes struggle to work together, Jupiter with his beliefs and ideals pulling one way and Mercury with his data-driven facts pulling the other way. Ebertin says Mercury and Jupiter in hard aspect can manifest as “Failures through dishonesty, negligence or clumsiness, fraud, frivolity, wontonness or mischeviousness, and unreliability.” I think that there may be a lot of trying to keep the facts about the big-picture in mind while dealing with fanciful, foggy details and since Jupiter is in Gemini, there could be a lot of details to keep track of and since Mercury is in Sagittarius, embellishment of the facts could be an issue.
The Sun and Mercury will meet up in their cazimi moment on December 5, 2024, the day after Mercury’s second opposition to Jupiter and the Sun’s square to Saturn, which may bring up whatever the Jupiter/Saturn cycle is activating for you right now as well. After Mercury’s cazimi, he will square Saturn on December 6, 2024, and then the Sun will oppose Jupiter on December 7, while Neptune stations direct! The first week of December is going to be very, very busy, astrologically! So, I would expect this first week of Mercury’s retrograde, from November 25-30th, to be rather dull compared to the second week, the first week of December.
Mercury retrograde will make a favorable sextile to Venus on December 13, 2024, so that will make for a pleasant last week of the transit involving our relationships when we could have some nice experiences with those we love and possibly some good conversations.
Mercury Retrograde Basics
During this retrograde, we may experience changes of mind, voice, communication styles, or ideas. We could literally change directions, alter plans, or reschedule things—or these may become necessities because of challenges beyond our control.
Mercury retrograde periods are notoriously famous for technological glitches and transportation issues, but also it’s not usually an auspicious time to sign documents or enter into any legally binding contracts, etc…if you can, it is wise to wait until Mercury stations direct on December 15, 2024. Obviously, life still has to go on and we can’t stop everything just because a planet goes retrograde, but if you can work around it, it may reduce some headaches and make for a better outcome.
I would love to hear about your experience, so please leave a comment!
So, as I go through the horoscopes for each of the 12 signs, just keep in mind that the overall themes of this Mercury retrograde may be news that is zealous, righteous, dreamy, possibly unrealistic, and details of the here and now vs. our vision for the future and how to balance this ancient archetypal tension between the microscopic view and the macroscopic view.
Okay, let’s get started…
Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius Horoscopes For All 12 Signs
Here is a short horoscope for each sign for the mercury retrograde starting on November 25, 2024, and ending on December 15, 2024. This will make the most sense if you read your rising sign.
Aries
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your ninth house of foreign travel, higher education, and beliefs. There could be an archetypal tension between the beliefs that you have and the stories that you tell yourself about your situation as you try to reimagine a world in which your vision matches your daily routine. There is a lot to say and a lot to communicate and finding the words or the time schedule to do all that you want may be a major theme of this retrograde.
Taurus
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your eighth house of shared resources, inheritance, debt, and death. There could be an archetypal tension between your finances and the finances that you share or rely upon from others. Financial security is very important to you so figuring out how to balance your income with your expenditures will be a big theme during this transit.
Gemini
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your seventh house of marriage, partnerships, and legal matters. There could be an archetypal tension between you and them, and this could stem from work vs. home life since Mercury and Jupiter also govern your tenth and fourth house axes as well (career and home). The trick will be in deciding how much of your time and energy will be spent on your responsibilities inside and outside the home, on yourself or on your partner, and a balance will be sought after during this retrograde, as seen by the Moon in Libra in this event chart—balancing your personal needs with the needs of all types of relationships.
Cancer
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your sixth house of stress, health issues, employees or co-workers, and pets. There could be an archetypal tension between your physical health and your mental health going on. You may have a lot of ideas and heavy thoughts weighing on you right now, stemming from your belief that you have to do it all and this could create some mental fatigue or stress. Additionally, since Mercury rules your third house of communication, you could experience some tech or transportation issues that cause stress, too. But, the Moon in Libra may help smooth things over as this points to using your diplomatic side as your foundation.
Leo
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your fifth house of pregnancy, children, creativity, and recreational activities. There could be an archetypal tension between what you love to do and think about vs. who you love to do things with! There may be a lot of activity in your world right now, and the hardest part of this retrograde may be deciding who to spend your quality time with because everyone is going to want to hang out with you or have you over! Choose what, where, and who to grace with your presence from the heart, Leo, as I know you always do, and bring your light everywhere you go.
Virgo
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your fourth house of family, roots, and property. There could be an archetypal tension between all of the things you are juggling at work with all of the ideas you have for your home and family life. Work could be booming right now with benefic Jupiter in your tenth house but there could be a lot of fantasizing on your part about how much work you can actually commit to and do well. On another note, there could be some Mercury-retrograde classics going on at work or home that make for some funny stories later! I’ll be waiting with my popcorn to hear all the tales.
Libra
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your third house of siblings, communication, and local travel. Of all the signs, you may experience the most classic Mercury retrograde issues like car trouble, dropped calls, websites not loading, etc. because of Mercury’s placement in your chart. You may already have noticed some of these during the shadow period. In addition to the classics showing up on your doorstep, you may also encounter the traveling salesman, or scammer trying to get you to buy that gadget that he promises will stop the ringing in your ears and also unclog your sink in the kitchen, or a text offering you a job making minimum $5,000/day doing practically nothing, and definitely don’t confirm your Amazon account details via text or your address so that USPS can deliver your package that somehow got delayed—so be aware, Libra, and don’t get fooled!
Scorpio
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your second house of money and possessions. There could be an archetypal tension between your money and other people’s money and how you want to make money, spend money, and share money. You could be going back over your earnings or expenditures and this may be timely for you, considering the holiday season that is upon us and all of the pressure to spend at this time. You may have a lot of dreamy ideas about how much you're making or spending and then be surprised when you actually crunch the numbers, and this could inspire you to try and reconcile the data. With Mercury in Sagittarius in your second house of finances, your best bet may be to draw a visual graph or picture to figure it all out.
Sagittarius
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your first house of self, health, character, and immediate environment. There could be an archetypal tension between what you want and what you want to experience with a partner. With benefic Jupiter in your love house in opposition to Mercury retrograde in your house of self, this may have something to do with your beliefs about relationships. Perhaps you are mulling over a career move and how it has affected your partnership. Or maybe you are thinking about moving or recently moved somewhere, and it has taken a toll on your relationship, and you want to find balance and harmony again. Diplomacy and tact are your best friends, and maybe friends are your best resource right now.
Capricorn
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your twelfth house of blind spots, large animals, hidden enemies, and mental health. There could be a lot of time spent thinking about how you’d like things to be right now and then comparing your dreams to how they actually are, but with benefic Jupiter in your house of stress and health issues, this retrograde period may feel like a time of recovery and joy when you’re allowed to take some much needed time off from climbing the mountain and trying to make it to the top. Allow this cosmic pause to rejuvenate and fill your sails Cap.
Aquarius
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your eleventh house of friends, allies, groups, and wishes. There could be a lot of mental energy spent on reconsidering who you are hanging out with and what you are doing for pleasure at this time. Perhaps you’ve taken on a new area of study for fun that has a lot of little parts that work together and this has brought you to a new group of people. You may be reevaluating if you like hanging out with this crowd or not. Are they cool enough for you? Also, this could have to do with setbacks and delays involving friends or communities you have recently joined.
Pisces
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will be happening in your tenth house of career, praxis, and the mother. There could be an archetypal tension between your career and your family life. With benefic Jupiter in your house of home and family, things could really be busy right now and with Mercury pulling a retrograde in your career house, slowing things down and creating all sorts of chaos and havoc, it could be wildly unpredictable! Perhaps you are reconsidering a position at work and how it will work for you. Maybe you are feeling some limitations in your immediate environment that feel like restraints, but the question is, are they really constraints or are they stories you made up in your mind to keep you from expanding? You, as a child of Jupiter, Pisces, are meant to soar and fly free, so don’t cage yourself in with limiting beliefs. Take the retrograde as a natural pause in the hub-bub to slow down and figure things out with a solution that will be good for all. I know you can find a creative one!
