Today we are having the biggest transit of the week and one of the biggest transits of the year, in my opinion. The Sun will be opposing Pluto today at 9:38 pm ET. We will be feeling this energy all week.
This transit reminds me of one of the books my seven-year-old has, called, “Who Would Win? Alligator vs. Python,” by Jerry Pallotta.
Obviously, this would be an epic battle and one that would be very interesting to watch from the comfort of my couch, but that I would be terrified to witness in person! This is kind of how I feel about today’s transit…
Below is the chart of the exact opposition from the Earth’s perspective, called Geocentric. You can see the glyph for the Sun (which looks like a golden circle with a dot inside of it) opposing Pluto (a small circle with a half circle underneath it and a cross under that in brown).
Now, this next chart is from the Sun’s perspective, called a Heliocentric chart, and you can see the glyph for Earth (a circle with a cross inside) is right next to, or conjunct, Pluto!
Wherever the Sun is in the Heavens, the Earth is exactly opposite that and I think it’s very interesting to think about this and keep it in mind, while we talk about today’s transit.
The Sun represents solar father figures, the archetypal “Ideal Father,” Fathers, sons, Kings, Presidents—you know, an authoritative figure in your life or in the world at large.
Pluto represents death and rebirth, regeneration, irrevocable change, deep, dark, penetrative emotions, and secrets— as well as minerals found deep inside the Earth.
The Sun god in Greek mythology was Apollo, “God of oracles, healing, archery, music and arts, sunlight, knowledge, herds and flocks, and protection of the young.” (Wikipedia)
And Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, was Hades. Hades was the brother of Zeus who was said to be the father of Apollo. So, we are having a stand-off, an opposition, a duel, between Apollo and Hades, uncle and nephew, today— and Earth, Gaia, the mother of all, is right in the crossfire!
This could feel like very intense pressure, the kind of pressure that makes volcanoes erupt!
There could be emotional drama today about family and the family environment or your living situation.
We could also see solar figures pass away, either personally or on the world stage. This may not happen immediately, but this is like a domino being pushed over, creating a cascade of events.
This energy could also bring up deeply rooted patterns or programs that you or someone close to you has been running that suddenly change in some way because a very bright light has illuminated them and they are no longer hidden. It’s like mental revelations coming up about deep, personal, emotional stuff that you can no longer shove under the rug.
This could bring up tough love situations where you have to tell someone the truth about something that they aren’t necessarily going to like, but you feel like it’s for their own good—or you could be on the receiving end of someone else’s honest feelings.
Really deep and emotional stuff could come up today, so please put your therapist’s number on speed dial, or a trusted friend or family member, because we all may need to talk to someone.
Seek out professional help and guidance if you need to and remember that this too shall pass.
The card for the day is:
Four of Wands
The “Four of Wands” represents completion and consummation. When we complete one project or finish one cycle, we are also beginning another. If we think of the phases of the moon, for example, when the moon is approaching the next New Moon, she is ending the previous New Moon cycle. It’s important to remember that the Moon never actually changes shape, it’s just her reflection that changes shape and she is always whole even when she appears to be only a sliver, or not there at all.
So, this card reminds us that we are whole, even in the face of external change, and we are always completing cycles and beginning new ones.
Something may be coming to a close, or to a milestone, that marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one: today or in the next four days, weeks, or months.
This card is often symbolized by the four wands making the decorated altar for a wedding and represents the old life of the couple ending and the new life together beginning. Through the vows of marriage, they are consummating their relationship and beginning their new life together as legal partners. You can see a much more picturesque scene in the Golden Art Nouveau Tarot depiction, here:
I would love to know how this transit is affecting you today or this week. Please leave a comment if you feel comfortable sharing with the community.
I hope this horoscope and card reading are helpful!
Until tomorrow,

Today’s horoscope was brought to you by: The Sun in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn. The Earth, from a Helio perspective, conjunct Pluto.
Today’s card was pulled from the Rolla Nordic Tarot available here on Amazon. The “4 of Wands” card used for comparison, was from the Golden Art Nouveau Tarot deck and is available there as well.
