I consider myself domestically challenged. I’m not a huge fan of cleaning. I love it when my house is clean, though, so I persevere and push through the daily grind of never-ending mindless tasks. In the Fly Lady housecleaning system, she talks a lot about routines, and the routine of washing one’s dishes is a BIG one, especially for us domestically challenged folk.
While I was studying today’s transits this morning, they reminded me of dishes, but more importantly the chores associated with dishes.
So, let’s explore the transits today through the eyes of a housewife and the dishes she has to do every day, shall we?
First, she must establish a routine in order to keep up on her dishes, this involves collecting, washing, drying, and putting them away. The Moon today in Taurus is supportive of this. She can easily keep up this habit while the Moon is in Taurus—maintaining an existing routine and enjoying the serenity that a clean kitchen brings—but that’s not the only influence today, oh no, not at all!
See, sometimes (or let’s be honest, all the time!), children use these dishes that she’s just cleaned, dried, and put away and they use them for a sticky, sometimes greasy substance, called food. They leave them all over the house.
She does her best to coach them and kindly teach them what to do with their dirty dishes once they are done consuming their gooey food, “either wash them or at least put them by the sink,” she says. But, alas, they are mere children and their heads are so full of fanciful ideas, video games, and fairytales, that they forget, and inevitably she has to collect them from around the house, herself…
Normally, this isn’t such a problem, but today the Sun in Cancer is making a Semisquare to Uranus in Taurus—she will have to practice restraint in order to do this menial task with ease and grace! Deep down she wants to throw all the dirty dishes away and rebel and revolt against this thankless job! No, no, she mustn’t…the Moon is in Taurus, will she be able to keep her cool?
Then, on top of that, Venus, now in Gemini, is making a SemiSquare over to Chiron—so the planet of love, relationships, money, and our deepest values is in a frustrating aspect with the asteroid, Chiron, which represents the wounds within ourselves.
She really wants a nice clean space, but every time she cleans it up, there’s a little “mess-maker” following her, undoing all her progress.
This is a little bit maddening!
I really resonate with this “housewife.”
Another example of this is the ice cube trays in my house…
Every night I fill up the ice cube trays and put them in the freezer so that in the morning I have nice, cold ice for iced drinks the next day. The last few days, when I opened the freezer, I found EMPTY ice cube trays IN THE FREEZER! Not refilled. Not partially full. Empty!! And not on the counter, but put BACK into the freezer! Why, why?
This is the energy right now. You do things to make your life easier, better, and more enjoyable, just to have someone or something undo them right behind you! It feels a little bit like our sanity is being tested.
But…we have to dig deep today and find that resolve that we know we have, especially as parents (if you are one). If you’re not a parent, I’m sure that this energy is showing up, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was like to not have kids, so I can’t think of any examples. *wink
So, the Fly Lady system may help with this energy today. If you’re not familiar with the FlyLady, I urge you to check out her website. This system has truly changed the way I think about housework and my life has greatly improved because of it. Not only is my house easier to clean, but I have also learned to love myself more because of this cleaning system, something I had no idea was on the “to-do list” when I started her system!
Okay, anyway…the first routine she has you establish when trying to get control of your house is to, “shine your sink..” This doesn’t mean do all your dishes! This literally means to take your dishes out, stack them on the side, and clean your sink so that it’s sparkling and ready to do a load of dishes. She has you do this each and every night so that in the morning when you wake up, you see a beautiful clean sink that’s ready for the tasks ahead! It really does make you happy!
Then, after you have that routine down, you add in the nighttime routine of taking care of yourself before bed…not your dishes, yourself. We can’t give, give, give unless we are taken care of, ourselves. Once that routine is set in place, she adds on the morning routine of caring for yourself. Yep, we’re still on self-care. After you have taught yourself to care for yourself, then you start caring for your house—it’s the act of “filling up your cup” first, so that you may pour love and care onto others.
So, the first thing we all need to do is find our metaphorical “sinks” in the areas of our life that need tending. Shine our sinks and then check in with our self-care routines. Are we washing our faces and brushing our teeth before bed? Are we getting dressed, or staying in pajamas all day?
Get “dressed to shoes,” the Fly Lady says! Even if you’re not going anywhere. And no, bunny slippers don’t count. Be ready for the adventures that life may bring!
So, that’s what I have for you today—maintain routines, shine your sink, and practice self-care in a way that actually fills up your cup, so that you have enough to give to all the things and people that you have to endlessly give to.
That’s what I think this Moon in Taurus, Sun semisquare Uranus, and Venus semisquare Chiron are influencing today—the feeling of wanting to break free from the hum-drum— but today is not the day. It will only lead to frustration. Today is the day to keep everything going and make note of those things and people in your life that are not supportive—with Venus and Chiron in aspect, this will highlight people who may not have your best at heart. It’s ok to acknowledge that and make note of it. I wouldn’t say it’s a day to do anything about it, though.
The card for the day is:
3 of Wands—Reversed
In this picture, he is setting out on a journey, and in the distance, you can see mountains, symbolically representing something natural, stable, and clearly defined. But, being in the reversed position, we must wait until there is an alignment of mind, heart, and action to go in the new direction that we want to go.
The three of wands is associated with Aries energy and Aries people. The number three may be significant also in terms of timing. So, for the next three units of time: days, weeks, or months, we want to operate from a place of integrity and pay attention to the Aries people in our lives. It also may represent a lack of moving forward for the next 3 units of time, while we are waiting for it to feel right.
The next three summer months are definitely bringing with them some really important transits, namely the Uranus, Mars, and North Node conjunction coming at the end of July this year. I am hoping to do a video about this on my YouTube channel because it has the potential to be really explosive and life-changing. We are all going to want to be Astro-Preppers for this one!
So, I am taking this card as a word of caution, since it’s in the reversed position. Proceed through the summer months with caution.
I hope this was helpful!
Until tomorrow,
AstroMommy
Today’s horoscope was brought to you by: The Sun in Cancer semiSquare Uranus in Taurus, the Moon in Taurus, and Venus in Gemini semisquare to Chiron in Aries.
Today’s card was pulled from the Morgan-Greer Tarot Deck available via my Amazon affiliate link here.
Yeah, self-care means stretching these muscles every morning!
Today's horiscope fit so well with my situation. I woke up early (5 AM) with thoughts of cleaning my house. Good suggestions about taking care of one's self and "cleaning the sink". I am getting a start on all this before the heat of the day saps my energy. Thanks!
