Having Coffee with the Planets: Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn

astromommy.substack.com

I set four alarms in order to wake up this morning.

My husband and I walked out into the cool dark morning, coffee in hand, looking up at the sky.  At first, all I saw were stars, but then peeking over a tall tree in my yard was a very bright light in the predawn sky which turned out to be Jupiter.

I had to use the app, Sky View Lite (a super cool App, btw), to identify the celestial bodies, for I still haven’t learned how to find them without help.

To the South of Jupiter, behind another tree, was Saturn, a much dimmer light than the big gas giant.

To the East of Jupiter, came Mars, closer to Saturn in its brightness, but with a discernable red glow (I was unable to get a picture of Mars by itself, due to cloud cover).

Flanked by trees, Mars and Jupiter shone in the early morning sky as my husband: an Aries, ruled by Mars, and myself: a Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, sat, drinking our coffee.

We looked up at the beautiful sky and talked about Astronomy, Astrology, and Greek Mythology.  I thought it was pretty cute and symbolically perfect, that the two planets that were most visible to us were the two rulers of our Sun signs.

We watched the sky, taking pictures when the clouds parted just enough that the little bright lights of the planets would show up in our cameras.  Until the Sun’s light over the horizon made the planets and the stars dimmer and dimmer, Jupiter being the last that we could see due to its being the largest planet in our Solar system, eventually fading away.  We know that the Moon, Venus, and Mercury were visible, but we couldn’t see them behind the trees and fluffy morning clouds.

It was very peaceful and beautiful.  A morning I will probably remember forever.  I am very thankful that I didn’t sleep through my alarms.

So, a few things are going on this weekend astrologically that we all may want to keep in mind.

The Moon will be in Taurus for most of Saturday and then she’ll move into Gemini by the evening, joining Venus on Sunday and then Mercury on Monday.  We are also in the Balsamic phase of the moon as she approaches a New Moon in Cancer on late Tuesday (Early Wednesday, UT).

Mercury made a Sesquiquadrate aspect with Pluto early this morning, so that could color the weekend, as well, and the Sun will be SemiSquare the North Node by Sunday afternoon…

Why do we care, and what does it all mean?

Well…we’ve been feeling like getting a handle on things for the last couple of days with the Moon in Taurus, feeling sensual, sensitive, and practical.  Today, on my ‘to-do’ list, is to finally move the tuppers full of winter clothes, that I cleaned out of my closet a few weeks ago, down into the basement, for storage.  I also want to close out the homeschool year: pack finished work away, clean out the school drawers, my teacher’s desk area, and find all the pencils that are all over my house and return them to their home in the homeschool room.

Today is a great day to finish up those projects we’ve been working on and clean up the clutter that’s accumulated in your life.

By this evening the Moon will move into Gemini and we will feel like communicating, dealing with paperwork, and our home environment, in general.  It’s also going to be a time of letting go of objects, ideas, or projects we’ve been dealing with in order to make space for the New Moon energy that’s coming on Tuesday/Wednesday.

The New Moon in Cancer will bring a focus on our home life, and if we used the energy of Taurus and Gemini over the weekend to make our home clean and presentable, then we will be able to enjoy the safe and secure space we’ve created.

The New Moon is always a natural time to set intentions for the month, so be thinking about what those might be. Prepare your mind and your space this weekend to set yourself up for success in the coming month!

Mercury in Gemini Sesquiquadrate Pluto in Capricorn, as well as the Sun SemiSquare the North Node, could have you thinking a lot about your future—what kind of life are you trying to create?  What do you want to change?  What do you have control over and what do you not?

There’s a lot of information in the news right now about many emotionally charged topics, like abortion, and our economy, to name a couple, that could have you deep in thought.

Pluto in Capricorn has been alchemically changing the traditional structures in our world right now, remember that the USA is having its Pluto return, exact on July 11th.  This will fundamentally irrevocably change our country.  That’s what Pluto does, it transforms things.

Pluto is the force that represents-symbolically-the change that happens when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly.  Not only is this happening in our country, but if you have Pluto in Libra in the last degrees, you are in or will be in a metamorphosis yourself (not from a Pluto return because it takes about 254ish years to go through the entire zodiac, but a Pluto square).  It may be a good time to book a transit reading if you are feeling profound shifts in your life.

I will be offering readings very soon and will post how to book one here in the newsletter over the next few days or so.

We may have been feeling some frustration and a lack of clear direction right now, but it’s going to be okay, this energy will change— hang in there!

The card for the weekend is:

IX Couche´

This is so weird, because the last time I used this deck(even though I just shuffled several times), I got this same card— do you remember?  Another thing that is weird: when I looked back at my previous newsletters to see when I got this card, and what was happening astrologically, it was the last day that Mercury and Pluto had an exact aspect!  Mercury and Pluto were in a trine on June 10, 2022 and that was the same day that I pulled this card.  You can’t make this stuff up!

This is so interesting because I was thinking about how on that day all the barriers were down between these two planets and now they are feeling a little bit more stuck. Using the metaphor of a snake shedding its skin--it’s as if the shedding process got started and everything was going smoothly (the trine on the tenth) and then the dead skin kind of hit a rough patch and just can’t quite release from a certain spot on the snake—that’s where we’re at in our transformation (Pluto), we’ve hit a snag of some sort and it’s going to take a little bit more effort and time to get the skin to let go, revealing the new skin underneath (that’s the Sesquiquadrate).

This card is supposed to be a picture of a ritual called, Couche´, where initiates go into a womb-like hut where the Mysteries are revealed and then they are rebirthed back into society.  At each of their feet lies dead chickens, as sacrifices to feed the “divine within the candidate”, and then after they are cooked, sustenance for their humanly form. This represents the idea that life depends on taking the life of other creatures and this sacred relationship should be honored.  This ceremony is a ritual for spiritual growth.

In traditional tarot this card is represented by the Hermit, “the way-shower,” and I feel like this card is telling us again that we are still gestating in the “womb” of ourselves.  When we emerge from this chrysalis, we can show others the way.

I’m going to pick another card just to add another dimension to this reading.

The second card for the weekend is:

VIII Possession

This is the traditional Strength card; here in this depiction, it is represented by a dancer being possessed by spirit.  The dancer is all-consumed by the strength of the divine force that is moving their body.  They must surrender to this all-knowing energy in order for the dance to come through.

The Strength card in traditional tarot is about using the strength provided to you by the divine, to burst free from limiting beliefs and have the courage to face whatever is coming up for you.

As we go through these transformations in our society and ourselves, may we call on the guidance and fortitude of the divine to help us have the courage to face whatever changes are upon us.  It’s a beautiful message of hope as we go through the death of something, real or metaphorical, and the birth of something new.  This message has been so loud and clear lately, it’s incredible!

I hope this was helpful.  Have a great weekend!

Until Monday,

AstroMommy

This weekend’s horoscope was brought to you by:  the Moon moving through the rest of Taurus and into Gemini, Mercury Sesquiquadrate Pluto, and the Sun Semisquare the North Node.  New Moon in Cancer is on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning!
