Good morning, friends!
Before we get into the daily check-in, I want to wish you all a happy holiday weekend and remind everyone that I will not be posting a daily horoscope on Monday. So next week, you can expect the Weekly Forecast on Tuesday morning and the dailies to resume on Tuesday as well. Plus, Tuesday is also the Full Moon in Cancer, which means the New Moon in Sagittarius word poems are due! I will post my poem on Tuesday and you are welcome to post yours in the comments section or reply to the email or share it on social media, using the hashtag #astromommywordpoem. I usually share mine on TikTok and sometimes on Instagram. I love reading your poems and look forward to this ritual every month!
If you’d like, come chat with me on social media! You can find me under the handles AstroMommy_Universe (TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook) or AstroMommy_Luv on Twitter.
I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Solstice last night! My family and I did a few things to celebrate the holiday. My daughters and I dried out some orange slices which we are going to hang in the window today. We mixed the ends of the oranges with some mulling spices like cinnamon, cloves, and some dried rosemary from our garden, and simmered them in some water on the stove to make our house smell amazing! Then we went outside and gathered some wood for our Winter Solstice fire and some natural tidbits to make an ice wreath, which is still in my freezer this morning awaiting the final steps. I will share some pictures of these two crafts once they are completed.
Once it got dark, I lit the fire and kept it burning until after midnight. It was so cozy to have a real fire in the fireplace! We waited until after the Sun’s official ingress into Capricorn, marking the Winter Solstice, and then gathered around the fire, wrote down a wish or an intention on a piece of paper, and then one by one cast them into the fire. It was a fun little ritual that I hope to turn into a new tradition for celebrating the Winter Solstice.
I had a headache yesterday, which is still here, so I spent a few hours lying on the couch watching YouTube, and I stumbled upon a great channel that had a wonderful video about decorating for Yule which inspired drying the orange slices and simmering the mulling spices on the stove. I would love to share it here with you all—it is a magical fairy-like channel that my daughters and I enjoyed quite a bit! It was also surprisingly educational, in that the woman who makes the videos, Alwyn Oak, identifies the trees and talks about the energetic properties of the natural things that she finds in the “Enchanted Woods” by her house. Since we are adding a bit of Waldorf Education to our eclectic homeschool method and one of the things that is recommended with younger students is to make a nature table, this channel was such a perfect find!
We made a nature table the other day by collecting items from outside and arranging them on a tray in our homeschool room. The girls thoroughly enjoyed this outdoor activity. By making a nature table throughout the year they will have a deeper connection and understanding to the seasons. I love this very simple activity!
So, anyway, that was our night! How about yours? Did you do anything to celebrate the Winter Solstice? Lit a candle, a fire, a lantern? I would love to hear about it!
Alright, so today, Mercury is conjunct the Sun; on the lap of the King! What is really interesting about this Cazimi, that one of my teachers, David Palmer, The Leo King, pointed out in one of his recent videos, is that because this conjunction is at the Winter Solstice point, once Mercury regresses into Sagittarius tomorrow, the Sun and Mercury will be in antiscia1 with each other, which is a hidden conjunction, so even though their corporeal conjunction will be over, they will still be conjoined by antiscia! This is fascinating and apparently rare and means we have a longer cazimi than I originally thought!
Let’s take a look at the Cazimi chart and what we can expect from this transit:
