Thursday, February 27, 2025
The Moon entered Pisces early in the morning at 3:46 am ET, meaning that today is a transition day moving from the mental and logical space of the Aquarius Moon to the dreamy and fluid realm of Pisces.
Since the New Moon isn’t until tonight, we are finishing out the Balsamic phase of the Moon during the day, depending on your time zone. This means that it is time to wrap things up, let things go that didn’t pan out last cycle, and “prep the soil” for the new energy.
This New Moon is also very important because it ties into the upcoming Eclipse cycle which starts with the Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) in Virgo on March 14, 2025. So, the new beginning we experience during this new moon may very well come to an end or culmination during the lunar eclipse in two weeks. This ending or peak point on the Lunar Eclipse may catalyze a profound change in your life that may feel very disruptive, like The Tower card in the Tarot, but then on the Solar Eclipse on March 29, a new beginning will occur that brings with it a sense of renewal and hope.
Today’s New Moon in Pisces is square to Jupiter, and in two weeks, the Moon squares Jupiter the day before the Lunar Eclipse. This shows me that Jupiter, the planet of luck, expansion, good fortune, and blessings is closely tied to this eclipse cycle. Saturn is too. Saturn is close to today’s New Moon, in fact, the Moon will conjoin Saturn tomorrow, and then in two weeks, during the Lunar eclipse, the Sun is just separating from Saturn, having perfected his conjunction the day prior. Saturn is the planet of suffering, time, boundaries, and lessons.
Both of these events mean that this New Moon and subsequent Eclipse cycle are tying in the Saturn/Jupiter square that has been ever-present in the background, since last summer.
Jupiter squared Saturn last August from Gemini to Pisces, respectively, and then again during Jupiter’s retrograde on Christmas Eve, 2024. The last square from Jupiter to Saturn will occur in the signs Cancer and Aries, this summer after Saturn has moved into Aries in May and Jupiter moves into Cancer in June and will occur on June 15, 2025. Jupiter square Saturn transits yield major pivot points and changes in our lives like big moves, career changes, or events that alter our family responsibilities.
We will go deeply into the eclipses next month, but I wanted you all to understand that this new moon is intimately connected to a larger cycle before we get into today’s post.
Let’s not forget that Venus is about to station retrograde on March 1, 2025, and Mercury on March 15, 2025, heralding many things to reflect upon and revise in the coming weeks concerning relationships, travel, commerce, and communication. So, this New Moon marks the beginning of going back over, turning away from, and changing our minds—it feels a lot like the weaving projects I am doing with my kids—we go over, under, over, under, and then turn around and go back the same way we came, only to turn around again and repeat. Weaving can feel insane at times unless you keep the vision for the finished piece in mind as you go, and celebrate each new color you add to the tapestry that creates something pleasant to look at.
So, the Universe is weaving all of these threads together and it can feel messy and chaotic because we don’t fully understand where we are heading and what the final picture will look like that we are making. This is the essence of so much Pisces…feeling a bit lost in a dreamy reality, surrounded by light and shadow, color and form, sound and touch—longing and yearning for connection and we reach out, grasping for something solid to hold onto, but Pisces is water and we cannot grasp water, so it is easy to lose it; lose touch with reality. This is why Pisces holds onto faith, hope, love, enlightenment, serenity, the divine—that which we cannot touch but we can feel in our hearts, and we steep ourselves in the estuaries of matter and spirit, forever crossing over the threshold of reality and fantasy.
The Transits
Early this morning at 4:37 am, Mercury in Pisces formed a sextile to Uranus in Taurus indicating that there could be some opportunities today that present themselves suddenly and unexpectedly but that are worth taking a look at, reading, writing, or collaborating on. You could also have a creative inspiration or an “Ah! Ha!” moment and feel inspired, inventive, and liberated in your freedom to express your new thoughts, ideas, or projects. You may even want to take a spontaneous trip somewhere.
Then at 7:14 am the Moon in Pisces made a sesquiquadrate to Mars in Cancer and this may represent that although you are having some inspirations and ideas today, you have domestic duties that take up your time and energy and you have to put your passion projects on hold, or you have to wait for someone else to complete their task before moving forward. This transit always creates some tension, especially in the home, and the possibility of arguments is likely.
The New Moon occurs tonight at 7:44 pm ET, and then four hours later, at 11:54 pm, the Moon in Pisces perfects a square to Jupiter in Gemini.
The Moon’s square to Jupiter may mean that you have many beliefs, philosophies, and ideas about how things should have gone or should go, and these conflict with the visions of others. This could be frustrating and cause tension with family and friends.
Let’s take a look at the chart of the New Moon.
New Moon in Pisces
New Moons are always a seeding point, a new beginning, a new spark of inspiration, or a new focus. Simply put, this New Moon in Pisces holds the seeds of imagination, love, devotion, compassion, and intuition. With this New Moon’s square to Jupiter, we may feel passionate about what our visions are, or were, and irritated with others if they do not hold the same visions. We may also experience over-indulgence by over-spending, over-eating, or over-preaching. The close proximity to Saturn during this New Moon reminds us that we must be responsible, mature, and make sound choices, otherwise we may encounter rules and limitations that force us to be mature.
This seeding point will begin in the house ruled by Pisces in your natal chart, grow roots into the house before it, and branch out into the houses after it throughout the lunar cycle. If you know your birth chart, you can track the motions of the moon and watch the new ideas grow throughout the month.
Each New Moon is like adding a new plant to the garden for the year—this one is like adding a delicate water lily, its roots firmly grounded in the fertile soil of your dreams, yet its petals unfolding gently toward the light, inviting inspiration and growth with each passing day.
Above is the chart of the New Moon at 09°Pisces 40’, perfecting at 7:44 pm ET. You can see the Sun and the Moon both on the right-hand side of the chart between 3 and 4 o’clock. The New Moon is in a square to Jupiter in Gemini which is at the top of the chart and is also co-present with Saturn, Mercury, the North Node, and Neptune in Pisces. This is a lot of Piscean energy and may herald a new beginning that is fueled by compassion, religious or spiritual conviction, sacrifice, or illusion. It could also symbolize a new artistic beginning that spawns a new wave of art, music, or otherworldly imaginings. Often extremely moving art comes from the artist expressing their deep suffering through their music, painting, or dance. It is emotions conveyed through the art that move us to tears of sadness or joy. Pisces has a way of touching the most intimate of feelings and sharing them with the world via their art in a way that is heartbreakingly beautiful. Michelangelo, Renoir, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, and Kurt Cobain are just a few amazing artists who were born under Pisces.
Here are some fun questions to ask yourself on this New Moon:
What are you starting today? What do you notice? What are you creating? What are you imagining? What are you dreaming about? What are you feeling?

The Tarot Card
What is the guidance for today?
XIX The Sun
What a wonderful card to pull on a New Moon!
On this card we see, Ambassador Lwaxana Troi, “Daughter of the Fifth House, Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, Heir to the Holy Rings of Betaxed, [and mother to Deanna Troi].”
I love what the guidebook says of this card, “Lwaxana is not afraid to pursue her own happy endings, and you should not be either. Start looking forward to some great achievements and clear victories and be assured that they are a direct result of your hard work and dedication. Feel free to bask in the sunlight, for you have certainly earned it.” (Schafer, 2022)1
The Sun card is about happiness, things going your way, good luck, success, rewards, and many blessings. It represents feeling full of vitality and vigor, just like the sun. It shows that this new beginning will be one to remember that will empower you and invigorate you and may prove to be a constant in your life. This is such a powerful and positive card and it gives me hope that whatever this eclipse season is bringing is ultimately for our highest good.
