Okay, let’s get into… the astrology
On Saturday the Moon will be in Aries and make some harmonious aspects, first a sextile to Mars around 8 am ET, and then one to Saturn around noon ET. This is the Moon’s attempt at making pleasant small talk with the malefic planets, Mars and Saturn.
In traditional astrology, the sextile is the nature of Venus and of "medium friendship" (Bonatti & Dykes, 2010)1. The Moon is connected with mothers, children, childbirth, menstrual cycles, lactation, nurturing, family, our habits, our emotions, and receptivity, and the moon can represent how you, yourself, “mother.”
Mars is the god of war and governs force, initiative, action, male sexuality, anger, and conflict, and can represent the driving force within a person.
Saturn is Father Time and brings with him limitations, restrictions, regulations, and calcification, and oftentimes represents hard life lessons about responsibility, humility, and rules.
So, the Moon is making small gestures of pleasantries to the malefic planets, and in turn, this may help ease any tensions which have come up over the last few days.
Then, a little bit later in the afternoon, around 4 pm ET, the Moon forms a trine to first Venus and then by the late evening, Mercury, which are both in Sagittarius. The trine aspect, in traditional astrology, is of the nature of Jupiter and of “perfect friendship” (Bonatti & Dykes, 2010).
Venus is the goddess of love and represents our relationships, values, money, and pleasures in life. And Mercury represents things like our thoughts, communications, mental processes, paperwork, phone calls, texts, and also, the exchange of money.
So there could be the feeling of love and friendship on Saturday that makes people feel good and social and jolly. The moon making these sextiles first to Mars and Saturn and then these two trines to Venus and Mercury signify to me that there is a feeling of having to get some work done on Saturday and then being able to relax and have some fun Saturday night.
Neptune stations direct on Saturday at 7:14 pm ET. This is a momentous occasion because Neptune and Jupiter are both in Pisces right now and Jupiter will only be there for another 17 days and then he will ingress into Aries on December 20, 2022. So, the next two and a half weeks are historical in that, when Jupiter returns to Pisces in 12 years, Neptune will have moved on and Neptune won’t return to the sign of Pisces for another 165 years or so. This is the last time we will see the two domicile rulers of Pisces, (Jupiter is the traditional ruler and Neptune is the modern domicile ruler) both in Pisces and now moving in direct motion, in our lifetimes!
Neptune was discovered in 1846 by Johann Galle and was named after the Roman god of the sea (NASA, 2021)2. Some interesting astronomical facts about Neptune are that it is an ice giant; it takes about 4 hours for sunlight to reach Neptune (as opposed to the 8 minutes it takes sunlight to reach Earth); and it has seasons, just like Earth, because it is tilted 28° (the Earth is tilted 23.5°) (NASA, 2021).
Another thing that I find fascinating about Neptune is that it has 14 known moons, of which the largest moon is called Triton, appropriately also named after a sea god in Greek Mythology (NASA, 2021).
In astrology, Neptune signifies positive things like spirituality, intuition, dreams, and imagination and can also represent negative things like confusion, mental fog, feeling lost, dishonesty, and fraud. There is also this notion that Neptune “acts like a universal solvent, dissolving the clear boundaries set up by Saturn.” (Louis, 2008)3. And if you just logically think about the ocean and how it is both teaming with life, but also dangerous, I feel that it metaphorically represents Neptune so well!
When a planet goes direct after being retrograde it is a wonderful thing for that planet! The planet will now have the power to influence the world again. We could see more music, art, and theatre that is imaginative and entertaining, but we might also see more division in the collective as Neptune in Pisces, historically has had the tendency to divide the people (Neptune was in Pisces during the Salem witch trials of 1692-93, and also in the 1850s when there was a great divide between spiritualism and religion)4.
Now, we have Neptune in Pisces again from 2011-2026, and again we have a divide between belief systems brought on more acutely by events of the last two years. We find ourselves divided in our beliefs with our family and our peers. I am not going to go into this deeply here in my newsletter because I do not want to sow division between myself and my readers, but with Neptune’s direct motion, I believe that these differences will come up again as we go through the holiday season.
I feel that the division that Neptune historically creates in Pisces, is a test. It tests one’s compassion, one’s heart, and one’s true colors. I can only speak for myself, and that is to say that throughout the last two years I have repeatedly asked myself, “how would I want to be treated?” and I have repeatedly come upon the answer, “with compassion and love” and that is how I have decided to behave: with compassion and love for my family, my friends, and my fellow men and women. I do not believe you can fight evil with more of the same evil and unfortunately, this is the logic that I see in the world right now—and in my opinion, it is faulty logic.
So, moving on to Sunday…
The Moon will ingress into Taurus on Sunday morning at 6:37 am ET so this may give us a more sensual outlook on things. We may feel after the pleasant night we had on Saturday that Sunday should be equally as pleasant! The Moon is exalted in Taurus because Taurus season (April-May) is a time when the animals are getting it on and procreating like rabbits! So, the Moon feels good and like she can focus on all the things she likes to do, like loving, nurturing, and bringing fertility to things.
A few hours before the moon goes into Taurus, Venus in Sagittarius forms a square with Neptune, now direct, in Pisces at 2:12 am. The square is of the nature of Mars and is an “aspect of medium enmity and disagreement” (Bonatti & Dykes, 2010), bringing tension and challenge between Venus and Neptune. So, Sunday could be a bit more challenging than Saturday and bring with it some feelings of confusion or disillusionment. On the other hand, this combination could signify actions surrounding making beautiful, imaginative, and creative things happen like art, music, and dancing! Even great food that tickles the senses with otherworldliness is possible.
With Venus and Mercury in Sagittarius, I feel that the old saying, “laughter is the best medicine” could be just what the doctor ordered this weekend. Laugh and be jovial—count your blessings and love on your family and friends. Let your true colors shine through!
Reminds me of the song, True Colors by Cyndi Lauper (click for lyrics), which I’ve embedded in the newsletter for your listening pleasure.
Let’s move on to a three-card spread for the weekend that will represent the overall energy of the weekend, what to focus on and what to avoid.
The first card represents the overall energy of the weekend:
XV The Devil
On this card we see the Devil, half-man, half-goat, kneeling on the ring of a serpent eating its own tail. Under this image are two naked bodies—a woman lying down apparently asleep and a man sitting, hiding his face in shame, guilt, or remorse.
The Devil card represents our shadow sides and whatever negative forces we may be dealing with that try to entrap us, enslave us, and derail us from the path of spiritual enlightenment. It is the chains that hold the people to the wall in Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and it is also the people’s ignorance that drives them to want to hurt the enlightened ones who return to the cave to share their knowledge of the world beyond.
As for the overall energy of the weekend, I think it is a reminder to pay attention to whatever addictions, vices, and attachments that may come up that serve to distract you from your path. The devil represents choosing instant gratification over long-term rewards. The question then is, “where are you opting for the quick fix?”
With Neptune station direct this weekend this could be a good indication to check in with yourself and see if there are any areas that need some discipline and realignment that maybe have veered a little off the path while Neptune was retrograde. I know for myself, that the holiday season is a time when I indulge in a lot of calories and after going on the Bone Broth diet last spring and losing 18 pounds, I need to be mindful about how much I let myself consume. It’s fine to eat a whole pie for Thanksgiving, but it can’t be a regular thing or my diet will have been for nothing!
This card also reminds me of the saying, “the devil made me do it,” which apparently was made popular by the comedian Flip Wilson in the 1970s! I have embedded a couple funny clips of his stand up routine, also for your enjoyment.
The Second card represents what to focus on:
Queen of Wands
On this card, we see a woman, crowned with flowers and holding a staff in one hand and a sunflower in the other. A black cat is at the bottom of the picture and in the background are two lions’ heads. The Queen wears a regal golden yellow robe.
The Queen of Wands represents someone who is courageous, outgoing, and full of life! As the card representing what to focus on, I believe this is reminding us to focus on having a good time, making connections, and sharing our creative vision with others. The Queen of Wands symbolizes someone who is charming, warm-hearted, and smiles a lot. It’s a positive, optimistic, and passionate energy.
I feel that this also represents not beating yourself up with your internal voice. With the Devil card bringing up our addictions and vices, this card could be reminding us to be kind and compassionate to ourselves as we course correct. Through love, we can inspire. If this was the Queen of Swords, I would say, it’s time for some tough love, but this is the Queen of Wands—it’s time for humor, joy, and kindness! Like FlyLady5 teaches in her 31 Baby Steps, you need to notice the negative voices in your head and change them to say something positive! (Cilley, no date).6
The third card represents what to avoid:
Three of Pentacles—Reversed
On this card, we see three men, an architect, and two men on either side of him that look like monks. They are sitting on a bench looking at a blueprint. In the background, there are three golden pentagrams and an angel’s face made of stone.
In the upright position, the Three of Pentacles is all about working together with others toward a common goal.
In the reversed position it represents disharmony, not working well with the group, or working by yourself, and also being out of alignment.
I feel that this card representing what to avoid is pretty simple—avoid not getting along! This card is a reminder that collaborating with others requires patience, skill, and a commitment to having everything work out in a harmonious way. So, I think this means to avoid conflict, disharmony, and tension one can do their best to go with the flow, stay in alignment, and work well with others.
To recap: our addictions and shadow-sides may tempt us this weekend, but if we keep our sense of humor, stay optimistic, and be positive, we can avoid negative interactions and clashes with others. If we focus on the higher vibrations of gratitude and love we can avoid the lower vibrations brought on by the “devil!”
I would love to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment!
I hope this is helpful!
Until Monday,
AstroMommy
