Time For More Coffee
By AstroMommy
I saw this coming
I wrote about it yesterday
But they arrived early this morning, tired from their long journey, tired and wet from the rain
A beautiful woman, well dressed, well adorned with jewelry and makeup and a man, tall, thin, and muscular, but missing a leg
they stopped at the pharmacy and picked up bandages, water, and candles
I didn’t yell when they arrived
But I bemoaned their arrival
I took the bandages, water, and candles
And set them on the kitchen counter
Ground some coffee beans to liquidate them into a beverage
It was the easiest thing to do
Hide in the kitchen, pretending I like to host
The silence was torturing
The gouge to your heart was still bleeding
I should bring you the bandages
But I am busy enough right now
You’re a big boy
You can come and get them right?
Haughtily I serve our guests
Yikes that’s hot, I take a sip of the black liquid
The sleep starts to melt away
My mouth is still paralyzed, though
I light the candle and watch the wax drip down
Into mounds at the base
Curling, clumping, coagulating
Together like little knolls of devastation
We go up, we go down, we get burned by the scorching sun, we recover in the cooling shade
But we keep going, along this path, along this journey
Together
Through thick and thin
New wax drips down ever so often adding to the clusters
Repeating itself like a xerox machine repeats what’s on the page
Like a molecule of xylose dances around in a ring formation
There’s history in the mounds of wax
some hard and unyielding
Some still hot and pliable
My guests have tension between them
He feels vulnerable, putting himself out there, wanting validation, unconditional love
It shouldn’t matter that he only has one good leg to stand on
And she wants things to look a certain way, be balanced, and aesthetically pleasing
And he leans, he can’t help it, but he leans
And she can’t help but be bothered by this, it’s in her nature
The rain still pours outside
All the leaves and bushes and branches are slick and shiny
Today is gloomy
Like a soggy piece of bread
Soaked with regret and heavy with emotional syrup
*Sigh*
Time for more coffee
